String Tension - Recommended Tension

This section of the string guide explains recommended tensions, and the different sizes of rackets.

Recommended Tensions

Almost all tennis rackets have a string tension recommend by the manufacturer. This is normally printed on the racket frame, often inside the throat of the racket. The tension is normally shown in both pounds and kilos.

This is a setting to be used on a stringing machine that will produce the best playing performance using most strings. It is only a guide, and you need to adjust the value within this range to obtain the best performance.

This stringing tension is not the tension of the strings in your racket. This will vary depending on the string used and the string area (head-size) of the racket. A Mid-Plus racket strung at say 25 Kilos (55 Pounds) will have a different string tension compared to an oversize racket strung at the same tension.
