String Gauges Compared

Gauge 1 Fine

1.21 to 1.25 mm

A string of this gauge has the best performance, but normally will have less durability. Select one of these strings, and you should be prepared to have more restrings.

Gauge 2 Medium

1.26 to 1.30 mm

This is the most popular gauge of string, as it provides best balance between performance and durability. Players who prefer to use a traditional type of string, could find a larger gauge will provide better durability.

Gauge 3 Medium Plus

1.31 to 1.35 mm

This is the gauge of string supplied with many rackets, and most players find that this meets their requirements. Players who use durable strings will not normally need to use this larger gauge.

Gauge 4 Large

1.36 to 1.40 mm

This gauge of string is now only used by a few players. There will be some players who use this gauge, but there are normally better alternatives.
