Grip Guide from Racquet Technic

Most players use the grip that was supplied with their racket. At some time this will need to be changed. This guide to grips from Racquet Technic should help you select a suitable grip.

There are many grips that are available, and you will need to try several types, before you find the one that is most suitable for you.

Grip Brands

Almost every racket and/or string company has their own range of grips. There are also a few companies whose main products are grips. This provides players with a large choice, and there does not appear to be any brand that is used by most players.

You will probably need to try several types before you find one that meets your requirements. The final choice will usually be based on performance, durability, and cost. The factor that is most important for you will probably not be the same as for another player.

Grip Types

There are two main types of grips available to racket sports players. These are Overgrips and Replacement. Each type has advantages, and a brief description of each is shown.

Replacement

These are the most popular, probably because they have very good durability. They replace the original grip that was supplied with the racket. Players who want a low cost grip normally select this type of grip. The problem for some players is that they do not give the best performance over a longer time.

Overgrips

This type of grip, as the name suggests, is wrapped over the top of the existing grip. It is normally the choice of most players who want the best possible grip on their racket. This type of grip is used by most professional players. The disadvantage is that this type of grip needs to be replaced more often, and is therefore, more expensive for most players.

Properties

Some players prefer a dry surface for greater absorption, and others want a non-slip type often called High-Tack. Some replacement grips also offer a raised portion, that some players find better.
